Madara Gruntmane, born 1981 in Liepāja in western Latvia, lives in Riga. She is a Latvian poet, festival organiser, pianist and artist. In her direct, almost scenic poems, she deals with experiences of violence and their aftermath. The focus is always on the female body and the speaking about trauma. She has published three volumes of poetry, most recently “Aizmīlestība” (Afterlove) (Neputns 2022) and “Dzērājmeitiņa” (Drunk Daddy’s Girl) (Neputns 2018). In 2019, she was awarded the Latvian Radio Culture Prize.
